After a decade brewing in the mind of one of Hollywood's most idiosyncratic directors, the long-awaited adaptation of Roald Dahl's FANTASTIC MR. FOX - with thirty sets based on the author's own home and village is finally ready for the big screen.

Due for general release in New Zealand during January 2010, ever-quirky filmmaker Wes Anderson has scored an animated hit with this stop-motion adaptation of Roald Dahl's much-loved children's tale. George Clooney voices the cocky fox who bites off more than he can chew when he crosses Boggis, Bunce and Bean, the meanest farmers in England. But his long-suffering family and woodland friends aren't so keen to play this particular game of chicken.

Also featuring the voices of Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Adrien Brody, Jarvis Cocker and Owen Wilson, FANTASTIC MR. FOX is a celebration of difference, and a lesson in the importance of being yourself.

Mr. and Mrs. Fox live an idyllic home life with their son Ash and visiting young nephew Kristofferson. But, after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr Fox's wild animal instincts... Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief, and in doing so endangers not only his own beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground with not enough food to go round, the animals band together to fight against the evil farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean, who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr. Fox at any cost.

Hip with heart and bursting with sly wit and energy, FANTASTIC MR. FOX is bound to leave everyone feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Make this December fantastic and join Square Eyes for this special presentation.

"Few filmmakers have managed to capture all the cheekiness and whimsy of Roald Dahl's books, but indie helmer Wes Anderson brushes very close to a flawless adaptation of Fantastic Mr Fox." Digital Spy

"A dazzlingly imaginative and poetically inflected comic caper that offers the tantalizing possibility that Anderson's best work, far from being a distant memory, is still to come." Daily Telegraph

"The director's genius for production design comes to the fore. The sets are a treasure trove of quirky details, retro-gizmos and snarky in-jokes." Little White Lies

Rated PG for thematic elements, smoking and suggested profanity, Square Eyes recommends FANTASTIC MR. FOX for ages 7 to adult. A controversial part of the script is the use of the word cuss in place of any sort of expletive - for example, "What the cuss?", "Why the cuss didn't I listen to my lawyer?" and "Don't cussing point at me!

As always, Square Eyes age recommendation is intended to guide parents and guardians in selecting the most emotionally and intellectually appropriate films for their children. While these recommendations are based on our Square Eyed knowledge, we recognise that all children respond to films in different ways and leave the final decision to the adults who know them best. We encourage you to select films that you feel to be suitable viewing based on the information provided, and to accompany your child or children to the screenings.
