Stop-Motion Commotion Workshop

We are super excited to present this hands-on workshop with stop-motion master Ant Elworthy — offering tamariki nine and up a unique opportunity to learn from an internationally celebrated New Zealand filmmaker.

Ant is an animator, animation director and illustrator. His career has taken him to Europe and the United States, where he has worked among the very best in the business. Ant’s feature film credits include Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, and Frakenweenie. Each of these films was nominated for an Academy Award in the ‘Best Animated Feature’ category. His most recent feature film role was Lead Animator on Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs, and he is director of animation on beloved Aotearoa New Zealand series Kiri and Lou.

Ant, and animation collaborator, Francis Saole (Kiri and Lou) will lead a workshop that focuses on creative process, character design, and nifty tricks and tips for setting up your own home studio. All materials and equipment for the day will be supplied.

There are limited workshop places available, so we suggest you get in quick. Participants will buddy up to animate the characters they create, so why not find a pal to attend with.

Participants will need to bring their own lunch please. The workshop will include regular snack breaks, and a longer break, where after finishing our kai, we'll watch inspirational international stop-motion shorts, and take a quick walk around the block together.

Further details will be shared upon booking.
